Compare and Contrast Brooklyn Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge ( 6 points)
Discuss the similarities and differences between The Golden Gate Bridge and The Brooklyn Bridge. What does San Francisco have in common with New York City? What connections can you make between the two areas and bridges?
Some of the ways the Golden Gate and Brooklyn Bridges are different is that there is no toll to gent across the Brooklyn Bridge while there is a toll to get across the Golden Gate Bridge and an other way they are different is that the Golden Gate was designed by Joseph Strauss while the Brooklyn Bridge was designed by John Augustus Roebling. Some of the ways the Golden Gate and Brooklyn Bridges are similar is that both span farther than 1,000 feet and an other way they are similar is that both of their total length is more than 5,000 feet.
The Brooklyn Bridge Vs. The Golden Gate Bridge The differences between the two bridges are that the Brooklyn bridge has no fee to use the bridge, as the Golden Gate Bridge has a $6.00 fee to pass. Also the bridges were built/designed by different people: The Brooklyn Bridge was designed by Joseph Strauss, Charles Alton Ellis, and Irving Morrow. The Brooklyn Bridge was designed by the brothers John A. Roebling, and Washington Roebling, and David B. Steinman. Also I don't know if this is very accurate but the Brooklyn Bride was built using iron and metal as the Golden Gate Bridge was made of pure metal. The things the two bridges have in common is that, first off, the bridges are both Suspension Bridges, they both have steel cables supporting the bridges, and they both had tolls when they were opened (Brooklyn Bridge at 1 cent). The last thing the bridges have in common is that they both have a span of over 4,000 feet(Brooklyn Bridge=6,000 feet Golden Gate Bridge=4,200 feet).
The difference of the bridges was the bridges have different locations, they had different designers, and different materials. the Golden Gate bridge also still has a toll while the Brooklyn bridge doesn't. What they had in common was they are both suspension bridges, they have steel supporting cables, they have spans longer than 4,000 feet and they had tolls when they opened.
The Brooklyn Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge differ between the designer, location, style, and the length. The Brooklyn Bridge was built by John A. Roebling, Washington Roebling, David B. Steinman while the Golden Gate Bridge was built by Joseph Strauss, Charles Alton Ellis, Irving Morrow. Brooklyn Bridge's style was Gothic Revival. Also, the Golden Gate has tolls while the Brooklyn Bridge doesn't.
The Brooklyn Bridge does not have a toll booth and the Golden Gate Bridge does. The bridges were both designed by different people. They also differ by style, and length. They are the same, because the are both bridges, (of course) they both stretch over water, and they both have a span of over 1,000 feet.
The one connection piece to both the Brookly and Golden Gate Bridges is CiNCiNNaTi, OhiO. John Roebling 1st designed and built The Roebling Bridge connecting Covington (CVG) to CiNCiNNaTi prior to building the Brookly Bridge.
And Joseph Strauss was born and raised in CiNCiNNaTi, OH. The Roebling Bridge inspired him to study engineering at the Univ of CiNCiNNaTi before designing and building the Golden Gate Bridge.
This is yet another reason why CiNCiNNaTi deserves a world class bridge when the Brent Spence Bridge is replaced in the next decade.
